HISTORY
FORT INDUSTRY WAS ORIGINALLY ERECTED IN 1794 BY GENERAL ANTHONY WAYNE AS A SAFEGUARD AGAINST THE BRITISH. UNITED STATES TROOPS OCCUPIED THE AREA OF FORT INDUSTRY SQUARE UNTIL BRITISH TROOPS EVACUATED NORTHWESTERN POSTS IN 1796 BY THE ESTABLISHMENT OF JAY'S TREATY WITH GREAT BRITAIN.
IN 1805, FORT INDUSTRY WAS THE LOCATION OF THE TREATY NEGOTIATION, EXTINGUISHING THE INDIAN TITLE TO ALL THE WESTERN PART OF THE RESERVE KNOWN AS THE FIRE LANDS. THIS LAND WAS GRANTED BY CONNECTICUT TO THOSE AFFECTED BY FIRES STARTED BY BRITISH TROOPS IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. FORT INDUSTRY SQUARE WAS THEN ERECTED AND REINFORCED IN THE MID-1800S.
